DBC File Types

This describes DBC file types for the purpose of identifying and locating data and other supporting files.

DBC data files

DBC programs generally do not require data files to be saved in a specific location. It is important that the user can locate their data and make sure it will be backed up.

DBC program DBC program executable Data file extension Backup file extension (optional) *
DBC Finance finance.exe .df2 .dfc
DBC PortOpt portopt.exe .wf
DBC Debt Manager
(ODBC data source specifies location)
cdmgr.exe .db and .log .db and .log
DBC Housing housing.exe .df .dfb
DBC Student Loan student.exe .df .dfb
DBC Multi-Family / Health Care health.exe .df .dfb
* Optional backups are not intended to replace an organization's backup policies or practices.

Note:

User preferences

Users will need to update preferences on an ongoing basis when using DBC programs. User preferences are stored in the \\HKCU\Software\DBC branch of the Registry.

Except for DBC PortOpt, preferences may be backed up to a .sys file. Note, by default, Windows does not display .sys files.

To back up user preferences:

  1. In the DBC program, go to Tools | Preferences (or System Preferences).
  2. Hit Export.
  3. Specify the location and name of a .sys file.
  4. Hit Save.

To load user preferences:

  1. In the DBC program, go to Tools | Preferences (or System Preferences).
  2. Hit Import.
  3. Specify the location and name of the .sys file. By default, Windows does not display .sys files. You should specify the location and type the name of the file (since you can't select it). Otherwise, turn on the Windows option that will allow .sys files to be displayed then select the .sys file.
  4. Hit Open.
