Installing DBC program updates
DBC program can automate the download and installation of program updates. Or they can be manually downloaded and installed.
Note, all updates are "roll up" updates, there are no prerequisite versions.
E-mail dbcsupport@sscinc.com to be added to the update notification e-mail list. When an update is available, you will receive an notice with instructions and a copy of the readme notes.
Update instructions for non-users (IT)
DBC program update files can be downloaded from:
https://dbcinc.com/general/updates.php
To install a DBC program update:
- Make sure noone is running the DBC program. It cannot be updated while it is running.
- From the link above, download and save the appropriate .upd file.
- In the directory where the DBC program is installed, locate iupdate.exe.
- Run iupdate.exe
- You will be prompted to open a .upd file. Open the .upd file you have just saved.
- You will see a message that the DBC program has been updated.
- The update is installed.
Update instructions for DBC program users (with permissions to overwrite files)
DBC program user can install updates.
- Make sure no other users are running the DBC program. Otherwise, it cannot be updated.
- In the DBC program, go to
Help | Check for Update
or
Help | Automatic Update
- If an update is available, you will be prompted to download and install the update.
If you are running the current version, a message will indicate no update is needed.
An error message will appear if you are running a very old version that refers to a website we no longer use.
In that case, contact DBC for instructions for installing the most recent version.
- After the DBC program has downloaded the update, it will automatically exit.
- A message will indicate the update has been completed.
- When you start the DBC program again, it will be the updated version.
Update errors
An error message indicates one (or more) of the following errors has occurred:
- The user has insufficient permissions to overwrite files.
- A file is in use. You cannot update the program while it is running.
- The downloaded .upd file was corrupted.
- The current DBC program installation is incomplete. It does not have the necessary files to install an update.
Update notice when starting DBC
There is a user preference for the DBC program to check for an update when it starts.
A message will pop up if an update is available.
